General Statement:
My work reflects an interest in new media literacies and aesthetics and a commitment to educating children and young adults, and it involves the research and development of narrative media to empower youth and advance design knowledge. Professionally, I have co-authored articles and book chapters, presented at conferences and workshops, and taught at the college and high school levels. My community service includes working with youth as a mentor and tutor and participating in theater and poetry events, and my hobbies include music composition and open water swimming.

Research Statement:
My research concentrates on empathy as a multi-dimensional, multi-stage construct related to a range of outcomes important in education, from immediate ones like perspective taking to distal ones like citizenship. Media affordances like interactivity and immersion can affect empathy-related outcomes, and my present work continues that of my dissertation in studying particular relationships, such as the effects of perceived agency and virtual embodiment on identification with characters and social reasoning.
