Santa Cruz, 1986. At a tiny exhibit on the university campus, I saw a series of polaroids that had been smudged while the emulsion was still setting; the result was like oil on canvas, but such slow, workable film was soon improved upon—the demise of a short-lived genre. Using computer software, however, I can likewise enjoy reworking existing sources, perhaps not organically but at least with flexibility.
